S2 E15: Whittled Baskets of Chianti

This week, we're channeling Diane Lanes and Sandra Ohs and talking about Tuscan wine. Swoooooon!

WINESUP

Kate puts on her journalist hat and gives us a run-down of the Corkscrew app. It's not a dating app, but it could help you find a wine to buy when cruising through the aisles at Aldi or struggling to choke down a truly mediocre pizza at Prezzo.

WANKIEST GIN REVIEW OF THE WEEK

Angela re-lives a truly cringe customer experience. *Excuse me, sir, could you please stop caressing that bottle of wine.*

THE DRINKING

Whilst recording this episode, we enjoyed a Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino which we purchased from Secret Cellar for £21.00. It's made by the same producer as the Brunello we recently reviewed for our Sangiovese round. Isn't that cute?

HOW TO FIND A GOOD CHIANTI

Look for wines with the following words on your Chianti.

  • Chianti Classico - these are wines from the heartland of the Chianti region in Tuscany. They're the OG of Chianti wines. Don't worry about ageing them, just go for it and drink them up.
  • Chianti Riserva - these wines have to be aged for two years. Drink these wines now or pop them in a cellar if you have one. Your call.
  • Chianti Gran Selezione - these wines have been aged for at least two and a half years and this means that these wines have more body (joyous news for Angela's creepy customer!) and ageing potential. Get thee to a cellar!

SUBREGIONS OF CHIANTI

There are several small subregions that produce their own styles of Chianti. They include Rufina or Colli Senesi, so look out for these smaller regions when buying Tuscan wines.

This Bottle Bitches episode was produced by Producer Paul (PP) of Dark Horse Digital who we hates bunnies. RUDE!
